Community Education

Stop the Bleed is a national awareness campaign intended to cultivate grassroots efforts to encourage bystanders to become trained, equipped and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives.

Teresa Mackey, RN, Community Medical Center’s Director of Emergency Services, received a funding grant from the Union Pacific Railroad as part of the railroad’s effort to educate Nebraska school staff members and supply them with Stop the Bleed kits.

During the recent teacher in-service days at Sacred Heart Catholic School, Mackey, Shelby Kreifels, RN, Med-Surg Supervisor, and Marcia Harmon, RN BSN CEN, taught the ABC’s of bleeding control. They provided the staff with the opportunity to experience wound compression tourniquet use.

Mackey, Kreifels and Harmon are certified Stop the Bleed instructors. If you are interested in learning more about this program, please contact Mackey at 402-245-6674 or Kreifels at 402-245-6676.
